There is a writer in everyone one of us. All of us have a story to tell, a thought to share, or a feeling to express. Some of us have found our voices in the printed word, while some have been silenced by the flawed notion that writing is only for the smart and gifted.
One great Russian writer said we should write what we feel and not what we think. I agree. Don't people in love write the loveliest letters? I keep a journal, and i find that my writing is better when it is about the things I strongly feel about. Sometimes I have a thought that I keep for days or weeks. I toss it around in my head -- visualizing images, seeking metaphors, searching for the right words. Tension builds in my head like a silent drum roll, and I rein my feelings and thoughts until I can no longer hold. Then I let them spill over onto the page, each word flowing with ease and smoothness. I marvel at the words that fill the page and the voice that speaks to me.
